We’re stoked to announce a dope collaboration with another powerhouse in Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Airlines team. This unique MMA and Wrestling-focused takedown team is one of a kind in the city. We teamed up to design and produce their custom team jerseys, taking their cool idea of basing the design on the iconic AJAX football jerseys and adding our signature APEX style to it. Amsterdam Airlines was founded by Joris Rookhuijzen, one of the former head coaches of Amsterdam Grappling Academy (AGA). Noticing a gap in Amsterdam for specialized wrestling and takedown training, Joris decided to go solo and create the city’s premier takedown school. With a background in powerlifting, wrestling, and a black belt in Judo, Joris brings serious expertise to the table.
For this collaboration, Joris wanted a jersey that paid homage to the iconic AJAX football jerseys, giving it a classic Amsterdam vibe. We at APEX Wear took this idea and ran with it, keeping the bold central stripe and incorporating Amsterdam Airlines’ colors. We also added unique wordmark artworks, featuring an inverted version that represents the intense takedown sessions where you might end up flipped. On the back, you’ll find the new slogan, “Fight or Flight,” which perfectly captures the team’s spirit.
We chose a traditional jersey style with a thicker feel, making it robust and long-lasting. The jerseys have less stretch and offer a more relaxed fit, perfect for intense training sessions.
